Sunday Snippet

For this week's 8Sunday, I was torn between three stories to choose from. The first was to add in another snippet from Path of the Horseman, which has been released almost all over the web now, my current WIP for the Losers Weepers anthology I'm trying out for, and my short story Survivalism, which was just accepted as part of The Dead Walk Volume 2 collection from FoF Publishing! Since I was really proud of this short story about an escaped asylum patient looking for a way out of his straightjacket in the zombie apocalypse, I thought it would be fun to share the first eight sentences of it:

And they said I was crazy. Joke’s on them. I’m still alive.
But I’m also still in the straightjacket, so I guess the recently reanimated jerks got a last laugh in after all.
Then again, I wouldn’t be trapped in it, walking around the remains of a ruined city, if people had just listened to me. Honestly, with all the love being thrown on the walking dead thanks to pop culture successes and comedy books, you’d think people wouldn’t have been so surprised. The dead have risen from their graves and are walking the earth to attack the living. What did they expect?

I'm glad this one will be part of the collection. It was so much fun to write and I think a lot of zombie/horror fans will enjoy it. That's all I'm posting for now, since I have to get in as many words as possible before going to my family's Easter dinner, and preparing for Food Coma Round 2. Because that's what happens when you're birthday is literally the day before Easter.

I hope everyone else enjoys their holidays and takes a look at the other snippets from the WeWriWa participants. Cheers!

Amy

    1. Thank you! I'm really proud of it, and not that I'm going to spoil anything, but I put in a pretty good twist at the end. ;)

  2. Congrats on the acceptance and publishing the other book, and Happy Birthday! You've had quite a week. :-)

Ugh, being stuck in a straightjacket during the zombie apocalypse would really suck! What a great way to start a story.

  3. Sounds like you've been terribly busy! Awesome!

And what a fun take on the undead! I'm actually more interested to see what happened before than what will happen after. I wonder what got her put in that straight-jacket in the first place. :-)

    Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Thanks! The character is actually meant to be male, but the gender didn't play a major role in the story anyway. I'm glad you enjoyed the sneak peek!
