Weekly Recap (And STORM BORN Giveaway!)

Well, it was definitely an interesting week! I accomplished a fair amount of my goals, learned some lessons, hosted a cover reveal for one of my favourite new authors, and made some new choices about my career. Not going to stop what I'm doing, just choosing a slightly different workload. I'll explain soon... First off, here's what I completed:

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series (More on this below...)
• Finish editing Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers

Now, I really, really did mean to write the story lines and finish the world building for Agents of Limbo. Believe me when I say that I love the bones of that series– the characters are so much fun, the new world is cool, the romances are heart-warming, the powers and abilities are diverse, and there will be car chases! However... I did a lot of reflection about my writing and what I choose to put in my books. With my thoughts slinking to the Areios Brothers books as I prepare to email Storm of the Gods to publishers, I began noticing the similarities to those novels and Agents of Limbo. Both books are urban fantasies with closely bonded brothers who have supernatural abilities. The settings are California and New York respectively, and while they are different, there could be some similarities that are seen. Since my current plan is to release these novels sometime next year, it occurred to me that they could be seen as copies of one another. That's not something I want. Urban fantasy is my primary genre, but it's not my only one. I love steampunk, dystopia, and will one day venture into sci-fi/cyberpunk. As much as I hate to push Agents of Limbo back again, I have to think about what will best sell my books.

Supporters in my writers group have nudged me in the direction of an urban fantasy/post-apocalyptic story that I've been using for my prompts, and I have to admit it's been lingering in my mind for a while. I won't go into a lot of detail to it now (maybe I will on Thursday, though I can tell you the series will be called Iron Gargoyle), but as far as broadening my horizons and gaining more readers, I think it will be the best choice for now. So, here are my new priorities for this week:

• World building, histories, series outline, and plots for the Iron Gargoyle series
• Continue writing the sequel to Storm of the Gods (my current Work In Progress, because I need to write something!)
• Start more giveaways for Storm Born

So, that's the major news. But is it the only thing I'm focusing on now? Of course not! I have a new book coming out next week! I'm absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of Storm Born, and what better way to celebrate it's upcoming release that with giveaways?

a Rafflecopter giveaway

A single night can change your life… for the worst.

It’s been a century since the last Centennial Storm, the calamitous phenomenon that covered the world in disasters– tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, tsunamis, and dust storms– caused not by nature, but by alien creatures from another realm. The Stormkind.

Ava Reid tries not to think about that night, when she was caught in a hurricane and brought face to face with one of the Stormkind, the man with a dagger, and the agony she felt when he stabbed her with a crystal blade. Yet as she and the rest of Florida’s citizens begin to rebuild their lives, Ava can’t help but notice strange things happening around her. Things she seems to be causing. The gusts of wind and sudden floods attract the attentions of a mysterious stranger who leaves her clues, and the deadlier men following her.

It isn’t long before Ava is swept up into a wild conspiracy, led by a secret society that knows the truth about the Stormkind– and what their enemies have planned for the world she loves. If she wishes to protect her friends and her family, Ava must harness her strange new abilities and become part of the Stormkind society. Because if she loses control, there will be no force strong enough to stop her…

This is the first time I've done a Rafflecopter giveaway, so I'm excited to see how it will work. I'm also excited to see all the promotional posts coming in. There will be more snippets, more buy links, and more giveaways.

While I'm still a little sad that I can't introduce the Agents of Limbo world just yet, I'm stoked for my new projects and even more so for upcoming releases. Never let it be said that I won't have a back-up plan for hiccups in Writing Life.

Hope everyone has a great week! Cheers!

Amy
