Sunday Snippet: "... playing hard to get."

I'm back, ladies and gentlemen! I had a fantastic time in Europe, and while I want nothing but more time there, especially in Greece (the temples, guys, the temples!!) it's time to get back into the groove. I admit that I missed my review yesterday, but Real Life does that sometimes, especially when the Real Job shifts your schedule. Guaranteed it will be posted this coming Saturday.

Since I already did a post about my vacation, I figured I'll just get straight to it and put up my 8-10 sentences for Weekend Writing Warriors. It's from Hunt of the Gods, the Areios Brothers sequel. I had to do a little bit of searching to find a recent snippet with no spoilers, but I think this one– with main characters Derek and Liam having the dangers of mermen and sirens explained to them by their ally, a descendant of Poseidon named Zale– will work...

[...]They can’t affect water-scions and have a hard time with women, but you two would be prime targets.”
“Of course we would be,” smirked Liam. “Derek’s a hulky manly-man, and I’m too charming to ignore.”
“And oh so humble,” I said.
“As if sirens care about humility.”
“Remember that when one of them tries to stab you.”
“They wouldn’t try to stab you,” Zale pointed out. “They’d use their claws to rip off your face, or throw you into the water for the mermen.”
“Wow,” Liam said. “Now that is playing hard to get.”

Honestly, half the fun of this series is writing the banter between Derek, Liam, and the people they interact with.

This coming week, I'll be focusing a lot on editing. I still have to go through my edits on Trick of the Gods (which I completed during the many travel hours of my vacation), and I want to get the formatting finished for Dark Divinity. I'm expecting the cover art and promo images in a couple weeks, so I'll start doing 8Sunday posts from the first chapter when it comes in.

Be sure to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors and leave them some love. For all my fellow authors, it's great to be back!

Amy

  4. You mean to say you chose Europe over a review for your blog? And you call yourself a professional. ;-)

  6. I suspect homicide brings those kind of interactions to the level of not-interested, not just playing hard to get. :)
