Sunday Snippet: "I didn't have to wait long..."

It's Sunday again! My Friday! Woo hoo! Time for my 8-10 sentences for Weekend Writing Warriors! While it's taking longer than I anticipated and I'm having to shorten the current length, Trick of the Gods is still going really well. I've got 2/3 chapters left in this draft before I set it aside and catch up on my editing backlog. Today's snippet picks up from last week, and as promised, we see just what Derek is capable of...

I didn’t have to wait long. Just before his fingers brushed my chin, I tossed the kopis in the direction I wanted to go. I followed it by diving to the left side, rolling on the hard concrete floor of the warehouse. My hand curled around the hilt of the sword. I came up to a crouch and pivoted on my knee. I twisted and slashed. The blade sliced through the tough skin of the Heritor’s leg, right behind his knee.
He roared in pain, his left leg crumpling. I moved to a kneeling position and plunged the sword into his side, just under his ribs. I was careful not to slice any major organs.

For the record– and I should have explained this in the snippet– Derek threw his sword so he wouldn't cut himself somersaulting. I hate seeing that in movies. You're rolling around on the ground with a knife. You're going to get cut by accident! Anyway, I'll keep this chapter going for a little while, AKA until I have the cover art for Dark Divinity. And speaking of Cursed...

I'm really excited to announce that One Book Two, a new reviewing website, has not only given Demon's Daughter a great review, but they chose my book to be featured in their first ever giveaway!

I'm super thrilled and honored to be part of this. I'm not just happy that my book will get more notice and hopefully more readers, but I couldn't say no to One Book Two's reviewing team. Warriors, I highly recommend them. They've got a bit of a waiting list, but the reviews are professional, thorough, creative, and they are exceptionally nice people. Definitely consider working with them if you want a detailed review.

Also, I won't be posting Sunday snippets for the next couple weeks... Because I'm going on vacation to Europe!! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am. The destinations (London, Paris, Athens, Santorini) are places I've wanted to see for years. I've wanted to see the Acropolis and Parthenon since I was about thirteen years old, so this is a huge dream come true for me. I'll still be writing on my vacation (It's honestly to the point where I don't know how to stop and never want to), but I'm expecting to be swept up by the beauty of these other countries. So I hope you enjoy the snippet, take part in the reviews/contest, and have a great week!

  1. Derek clearly knows what he's doing, with the careful slicing and dicing. People rolling around with sharp things bugs me too. But then, you do uncommonly great realistic fight scenes. :-)

Have a great time on your trip! I'm so jealous- Athens is at the top of my bucket list. I'm sure it'll be marvelous.

  3. It also makes for a cool combat maneuver. But does she need to harvest the Heritor's organs?

  4. Have a terrific vacation! Appreciated the realistic touches of the fight scene and of course now want to know why she was so careful about the major organs. Great snippet!

  6. Your action writing is incredible! I can see the moves, but the actual description in no way slow down the scene.

And congrats on the book selection! Yay for you!

  7. That went south quickly! I wonder if he got any 'minor' organs, there's not too much space in the torso with nothing important in it.
