Sunday Snippet

It's that time again! For those of you on the Weekend Writing Warriors circuit, you probably noticed that my posts come late. Time differences truly do suck. So after taking the advice of a fellow WeWriWa author, I'll be doing the 8Sunday posts earlier, hopefully getting them online on late Saturdays. I like to be in the loop! Besides, tomorrow I'm having a huge hangout day with my friends. Real Life has thrown me through some flaming hoops this past week and I need a day to just unwind and forget everything for a few hours. Even writing, which I love more than anything else in the world, is taking its toll.

Anyway, this morning I completed my latest Blood Moon story this morning and posted it here, though kind of blanked out for the rest of the morning. I caught a second wind for Obsidian Sky, and today I began the final airship battle scene. Because of course it needs one, that's why! It's not the final boss battle, but I think it will be pretty exciting. Not that our hero (you guessed it– Sawyer) seems to think so...

“Get the cannons ready,” I said to Beck. “Primary fire will be on that big bastard. If we encounter any skiffs, we use our other guns. Cannon fire is shit against anything small.”
Beck nodded, understanding. We had an advantage that the Hellions didn’t know about, and that I hoped would save us if things went wrong.
When, Sawyer. When they go wrong. You’re luck has never been that good.

I've got a few more visuals that I want to add to the scene tomorrow, since my brain is starting to shut down and telling me it's time for bed. Hope you enjoyed the snippet, and remember to support the other WeWriWa authors by simply visiting their blog and leaving a comment on their work. Great stuff is out there, just waiting to be found!

  2. I guess it's hard to be optimistic at the beginning of EVERY big battle. Sounds like it will be noisy. :-)

    1. Oh, it will be. The enemy ship is a little absurd, but I kind of love the idea, which I got from Jennifer Estep's latest novel, SPIDER'S TRAP. :D

  3. Not a good sign if he's anticipating bad luck.

    1. Sawyer's always anticipating something to go wrong. And for good reason, to be honest. He's not the luckiest sky-pirate in this world. ;)

  5. Love that last line "When, Sawyer. When they go wrong. You’re luck has never been that good.". It really sets up the hook and tension. Great job.

  6. Exciting! "When" sounds ominous, but I'm hoping that ace in the hole they've got saves the day. :)

    1. Thank you! I haven't really gotten to that part yet, but there are a few ideas kicking around that sound like they'll be fun to test out. ;)

  8. You've got me wondering what advantage Sawyer refers to. Hope it works.

I empathize about getting the snippets up in time. Several of mine were either late or missed entirely before I started writing them and scheduling them to go live when I wanted. I already have a post scheduled for a September blog tour. Scheduling is great!

    1. It's really the only way I can get things done haha. I have a To Do List with when I need to send things out or have them done by. I find it really helps once you get it going!

  9. I loved the tone of the whole snippet and I'm dying to know what the advantage may be! Excellent excerpt, I'm intrigued.

    1. Thank you! To be honest I have to work on using said advantage a little more, but I've been a little caught up in another idea that Sawyer and his crew are putting to use that I keep forgetting about the initial idea! This story is going to be a challenge to edit. :S
