The moment I strolled into Jonathan Stone’s
foyer and saw the dim lights and roaring fireplace at the far end of the hall,
I knew I was in trouble.
The man himself sat only a few feet from the blazing flames in
a high-backed leather chair, one foot crossed over his knee and a glass of
Scotch in his hand. He stared at me from across the hall, drinking and waiting.
Sighing unhappily, I walked to
meet my fate.
My boots clicked against the
hard stone floor. Intricately carved wooden staircases curled on either side of
me, twisting to the massive second level where all of Stone’s slaves lived in
supposed luxury.
Sorry, not slaves. Employees.
I
continued to walk under the Gothic archway, beneath the bony chandeliers with drooping
candlewax.
The story has been a lot of fun and I'll be excited to send it in. I have a good feeling about it, and once I get through the edits, I know it will be even stronger. I've got a busy day ahead (want to do some more editing and catch up on some promo/blog/marketing stuff), and I want to get as much done before I have to go to the Real Job. Be sure to leave some comments with your thoughts and remember to check out the other talented WeWriWa authors!
Cheers!

DeleteNice, but a few feet from the fire, I think that is a recipe for a first degree burn, at least. ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, good point, I never looked at it that way before. I was just trying so say that Carter was feeling the heat. ;) Thanks though!
