Sunday Snippet

Now that I've completed the first draft of Midnight Sky, I've happily moved on to another project that I've wanted to do for the past few months. Currently, that project is The Maker of Monsters, which will hopefully be selected for the upcoming April Moon Books anthology, Spawn of the Ripper. My entry is about a voodoo priest who's been enslaved by a gang of sadistic warlock thieves that use him for his unique ability to turn men into monsters. That process is fairly (okay, really) graphic, so I decided to select sentences based on the setting of the carnival, called the Festival of Fears...

He undid the shackles on my wrist and shoved me out of the tent. A flurry of lights and sounds assaulted my senses. Striped tents and booths glowed with yellow lamplight. Children shrieked, laughed, and wailed for their mothers. Overcooked meat and sickly sweet treats filled the air of the late August night. Vendors and conmen called to the crowds, selling the same lines to the unassuming masses. One particularly robust man dressed in coattails and a ruffled white shirt stood on a wooden barrel next to a wide, rectangle tent. Behind his head was a black banner with dripping red text like blood, labeled “The Den of Demons!”

I absolutely love the idea of this story, and am very excited to enter another submission to April Moon Books. I'm not going to get ahead of myself and confirm that I'll be selected, but I feel good about this one, since they selected my last two shorts. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this week's 8Sunday, and don't forget to check out the other entries of WeWriWa!

Cheers!

Amy

    1. Yeah, I definitely wouldn't recommend this one. If you don't get ripped off, you could potentially get ripped apart. Glad you enjoyed it!
