Sunday Snippet

I was having some trouble with the setting for my latest short story that is due for submission at the end of the month, until I came across this:

Who can resist a prompt like that? So I came up with the final idea, which I absolutely love: A dystopia prison escape romance. Here's the opening so far:

---

“Sixteen thousand feet of ten inch glass above us, over five thousand yards of barbed wire fencing, all of which contains ten thousand volts of electricity, and hundreds of miles of open water beyond that. Tell me exactly how you plan on our escape.”
Geerk grinned, like he was waiting for me to ask that question. I would have thought he was completely insane if I didn’t desperately need his help.
“Easy,” the latest inmate to Perdition piped up, “all we gotta do is overload the main power grid, cut apart the wire, break through a vent in the glass, then take the heli-carrier from the landing pad outside. Easy!”
I blinked at him, sure I’d misheard every word.
“You know, if you want to commit suicide, there are easier ways.”

---

Now that I know exactly what I want to write, I don't think I'll have any problems getting this short done by the end of next week. The word limit is 7500 for this submission, though it might take a little research to make sure my escape plan actually works. Still, I'm excited! I've wanted to write a prison escape story for a long time, so this seems like the perfect opportunity! Hope you enjoyed the snippet! Remember to give some love to the other WeWriWa and 8 Sunday authors!
