Sunday Snippet

While I'm tentatively hoping to have the first draft of Crimson Sky done by the end of next week, I've also got some ideas brewing for the next installment of the Blood Moon series. I have the general idea for the story, which will be Helena's, and wrote some of the opening, which you can read down here for this week's 8 Sunday snippet:

---

This was all wrong. I was supposed to be the hunter, not the hunted.
I made a sharp turn around the corner of the pillar of the parking garage, pressing my back to the cold concrete. I gripped my silver knives tightly, taking steady breaths to slow my heart rate. Not an easy thing to do with two stocky Betas lurking nearby, one of whom was holding a grudge now that I’d tried to eviscerate him.
They should have known better than to attack me, but this wasn’t a random mugging. Those Betas knew what I was.
“You may as well come out,” crooned the uninjured Beta.

I love writing Helena's stories and am excited for this latest installment. You can catch up on reading the Blood Moon series on my blog or on Figment, though each story can be read individually. Remember to check out some of the other WeWriWa authors and give them some love. It's always fun to see what ideas other writes come up with!

Cheers!

  1. Ooh, so exciting! I like it! Very action-intense.

One small tiny tiny suggestion. I stumbled a bit over the phrase "turn around the corner of the pillar of the parking garage." I feel like "turn around the pillar of the parking garage" would have been sufficient without the extra "of" phrase. Otherwise, incredibly well-written and engaging! I look forward to seeing what comes of it! :-) :

  2. Thanks for the advice! It's still a first draft so I'm sure I'll make other mistakes, but I'll change it as soon as I can. Thanks for taking a look! :)

  3. Intriguing and I definitely wanted to keep reading. I liked the main character's 'voice' and the situation grabbed me right away. Great 8!

    1. You're welcome! Haha I'm working on the final showdown of the story right now, and it will be posted at the end of the month. I might be putting in a new snippet this Sunday, but I haven't decided yet. ;)
