Everything about the Casket screamed evil. Touching it was
the last thing I wanted to do. But the thought of what Pyre could do with it
left me no choice.
I reached out and grabbed the box with both hands.
The heat was excruciating. I felt as though my skin was
being melted into the siding. The tendrils of smoke slipped from under the lid
and coiled around my wrists. They tightened to the point of cutting off my
circulation. I couldn’t do anything but stay on my knees and scream.
I expect to finish Cold Spell today so I can move onto another project. In the meantime, I have some more news. One, the cover of Cursed: Demon's Daughter has finally met my approval, and the release date will be coming in a couple weeks. There will be at least one contest, so check back frequently for details.
This could be yours soon! |
I still have one running contest for a FREE paperback copy of Avast, Ye Airships! To enter, just leave a comment here telling me about why you love steampunk. Bonus points to anyone who leaves a kind word about Path of the Horseman, (which has received another stellar review!) but it's not a required as winners will be chosen randomly. Contest runs for four more days– until May 28, so get your entries in before it's too late!
Remember to check out the other fantastic WeWriWa authors and leave comments about their work. There's something for everyone! Hope you have a great weekend. Cheers!
Amy
P.S.: I've started doing Teaser Tuesdays on Facebook, so follow me for longer, thrilling snippets!
Well, that's a nice way to leave us hanging. :-) Sounds like a great premise for the story. I love that cover!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist. ;) Thank you!
DeleteWow, that was a vivid scene and the pain came through clearly...great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteDo not try to deprive the big evil aliens of their powers, puny humans. The consequences will be dire...
ReplyDeleteI do hope what is happening to Bethany is not permanent.
Dire is an excellent way of putting the situation. ;)
DeleteOops, grabbing that thing was not a good idea! Super scary!
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteYikes - that was scary - not like the idea of hands melting - ew!
ReplyDeleteI thought of what could happen when you touch an evil box, and it was one of the first ideas to pop into my head. Maybe that makes me a little depraved, but... well, horror author. >:)
DeleteOne word comes to mind: ouch!
ReplyDeleteHaha I think that's an appropriate word.
DeleteWhat comes to my mind is Pandora. Don't open the box, Bethany!
DeleteI actually used that reference in the story... Whether or not Bethany learned from the myth is a mystery... ;)
