Welcome toWeekend Writing Warriors, the weekly blog hop where various indie authors get together and share 8-10 sentences from their current work in progress/upcoming/current release! I've had quite a few things happen this week, mostly revolving around, Storm Born, but first, my snippet. This scene takes place in the same setting as last week's snippet, but closer to the end of the chapter. A few people have been hinting that Claire, Sawyer, Gemma, and Nash might be finding trouble once they get past the gate to their destination. All of you were right. In this scene from Crimson Sky, there's been a battle that Claire was hidden away from. Worried for the crew, she creeps forward to see that they've been captured, and is scared that Sawyer will stay true to his pirate nature and betray her for the sake of himself and his crew (slightly edited to fit sentence limit)...

"Now, before we get started, is there anyone else here
with you? Someone hiding that you hope will save you?”
I shrank
back into the pile of garbage. I hadn’t been seen yet, and I didn’t have a
plan. Running headfirst into the fight would get me captured, and if Briggs
knew I was working for the marauders, he would make sure I was tortured the
longest.
“Who
says we need a savior?” Sawyer taunted. “We’ve gotten through worse dilemmas
than this.”
I blinked. Sawyer could have gone back on his word and given me up; he didn’t know I was watching this.

I hope everyone's enjoyed the Crimson Sky snippets, because I'll be moving on from them next week so I can focus on promoting my next major release, Storm Born.
A single night can change your life… for the worst.
It’s been a century since the last Centennial Storm, the calamitous phenomenon that covered the world in disasters– tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, tsunamis, and dust storms– caused not by nature, but by alien creatures from another realm. The Stormkind.
Ava Reid tries not to think about that night, when she was caught in a hurricane and brought face to face with one of the Stormkind, the man with a dagger, and the agony she felt when he stabbed her with a crystal blade. Yet as she and the rest of Florida’s citizens begin to rebuild their lives, Ava can’t help but notice strange things happening around her. Things she seems to be causing. The gusts of wind and sudden floods attract the attentions of a mysterious stranger who leaves her clues, and the deadlier men following her.
It isn’t long before Ava is swept up into a wild conspiracy, led by a secret society that knows the truth about the Stormkind– and what their enemies have planned for the world she loves. If she wishes to protect her friends and her family, Ava must harness her strange new abilities and become part of the Stormkind society. Because if she loses control, there will be no force strong enough to stop her…
***I'm still working on the pre-orders, which should be ready by next week. I have a little more proofing to do, but the eARCs have been sent out. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to provide a copy in exchange for an honest review (leave your email in the comments and I'll get back to you pronto). I'm excited for the release, but also super nervous about it. Maybe a little self-doubt is getting to me. Oh well. Whenever I get that feeling, I just look at the postcards and bookmarks I got recently and distract myself with their prettiness.

I've been working on formatting, interviews, and media kits mostly, doing my best to multi-task, gushing over my latest short story that will appear in the Mocha Memoirs Press Steampunk Horror anthology, and am still working away at Storm of the Gods. Next week will be just as hectic, I'm sure, so it's a good thing I have my To Do List to be organized with.
And that's all for now! Remember to check out the other blogs and websites for the WeWriWa authors and leave them some love. See you all next week!

Go Sawyer! =D Great snippet, Amy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
DeleteAh, so Sawyer does perhaps have some integrity. I was hoping he did!
ReplyDeleteLoving that Storm Born cover and swag!
Thank you so much! :)

ReplyDeleteI reviewed on Goodreads and Amazon. Outstanding story, Amy.
I saw that, thank you so much Teresa! :D
DeleteGood for Sawyer! I like the way this went, great snippet.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :D
DeleteSawyer's being nice -- that's nice to see, because he isn't always.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, he can be pretty moody. ;)
DeleteYour intro makes me wonder if Sawyer has ulterior motives. He doesn't seem like the sort to be nice just for the sake of it :-) Storm Born looks like fun and I can't wait to read some snippets of that.
ReplyDeleteHe has his share of secrets, that's for sure. Thank you!
DeleteSo, Sawyer isn't as bad as he's seemed. Intrigued.
ReplyDeleteYup. He's got a heart behind all his stubbornness. ;)
DeleteI love it when characters keep me guessing and aren't predictable. Great snippet, and congrats on the new book!
