November and
NaNoWriMo are nearly at an end, and I have to admit that I'm scrambling. Turns out I was
way less prepared than I thought I would be to write this story. I thought writing fight scenes where characters can manipulate and control the weather would be easy. Silly me! Nonetheless, I refuse to give up now. I will finish
Storm Born by the end of the month, no matter what it takes or how much I dislike what I wrote or what I seem to be missing... And there is a lot of that going around. That being said, I can still see the potential here. I do know I can fall in love with this novel again, and that we've just hit a rough patch. I remembered this as I came back to the first chapter for my 8-10 sentence snippet for
Weekend Writing Warriors. I've skipped ahead a little bit from
last week's post, since I wanted to introduce the supernatural creatures of my story to the world– the Stormkind.
Its body was made of water, shafts of
pale blue light filling its limbs like a skeleton. The water shimmered over the
light like water over stone, rippling and calm.
For a second, that’s exactly what it
was– calm. It just stood there. Maybe it was looking around, though I didn’t know
how it would have done so. It had no eyes, not even a nose or mouth. It was
almost an alien thing.
Maybe they were aliens.
Nobody knew, because nobody that encountered a Stormkind ever lived to study
them, let alone stop to have a chat with one.
That single second ended, and I
remembered why.
I'll post another snippet from
Storm Born next week, and then it's back to promoting
Dark Divinity in time for its release. I can't tell you how excited/nervous/
terrified I am for this new release. I had a lot of fun writing it and am eager to know how readers feel about it in comparison to
Demon's Daughter. Most I can do now is promote and wait for the reviews to come back! There will likely be ice cream, since ice cream is perfect for celebrating both success and heartbreak! Okay, admittedly I'm not
that anxious. It's the New Release Nerves. I'm still revelling in the concept that I'll have yet another book out by the end of this year, which is definitely something I'm proud of.
As I wrap up
Storm Born, I'll be going back to some old projects and starting a new short story for a contest. I have a pretty interesting idea for it, and I hope it works. I get the feeling December will be a whirlwind month for me, so it's a good thing I like to keep busy! Remember to stop by the websites and blogs of the other
Warriors and leave them some comments, because comments are love. See you soon!
Amy
Very intriguing Amy!
ReplyDeleteI think it must always be a challenge to do something that hasn't been modeled before. Good for you! Please keep going, I would love to read an elemental fight scene!
Oh, it's been a challenge all right. I have no idea how I'm going to do the final fight scene. But I know that with some work, it will turn out to be awesome. Thank you!
DeleteSo, will it chat to her?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure she'd really want to hear what it would have to say. ;)
Delete"It was almost an alien thing." A being made of water? Yeah, it's either an alien or maybe someone from Vancouver.
ReplyDeleteProbably better to go with aliens, since the setting is in Florida. Though extraterrestrial water beings in Florida wouldn't be the craziest thing to happen to the state...
DeleteSounds scary, but yet intriguing. Nice job on the alien description.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I wasn't sure it would be enough, but I didn't want to overdo it either.
DeleteOoh, I love it - the Stormkind are intriguing and different and I can't wait to read more. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I definitely love the look of them as well. :)
DeleteWhat a unique world you're building, Amy! I love that description. What on earth is it?? Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteNo post for me this week. Have a great week!
Thank you! I'm definitely really happy with the mythology I wrote up. :)
DeleteOooh. The description of the Stormkind definitely paints me a vivid picture of what they look like. Loved that cliffhangery end. I want to know what happens next!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear! I'm always a little worried that the descriptions I write are never enough to portray what I'm planning in my head. ;)
DeleteThis is such an intriguing snippet. It definitely works for me and leaves me wanting more. Good luck finishing your piece this month!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've got about 1.25 chapters left. Should be done in a couple days!
