Sunday Snippet: "Your turn's coming..."

The week turned out to be surprisingly busy for this writer! I had another short story released in Legends of Sleepy Hollow: Original Tales of Terror From America's Spookiest Village called Hell To Pay, then a guest post on Armand Rosamilia's blog talking about why authors shouldn't stress about reviews, I began the edits on Dark Divinity, the second Cursed novel, sent out Crimson Sky to a Beta reader who has told me that not only can he not find any glaring issues with the book, he has no regrets reading it! Finally, I posted a review for WeWriWa author Ed Hoornaert's Alien Contact For Idiots. Talk about staying busy!

Speaking of WeWriWa, it's time for 8Sunday! I'm continuing to post snippets of the first chapter for the first novel in my current Work In Progress, Trick of the Gods. Continuing form last week, the tension in the opening scene with main character Derek facing off an angry Titan continues to build, as Derek reveals his secret weapon/partner in crime, a trouble-making sibling named Liam...

Ready, kid? I asked Liam.
You mean am I finally bored of watching you get your ass kicked? I could almost hear his scoff through the blood-bond. I was done with that fifteen minutes ago, dude.
Your turn’s coming, brother. Calm down.
You calm down, he grumped.
            But I was.

Why oh why is Derek calm in the face of an adversary who can literally crush him? You'll have to tune in next week! Yes, I've always wanted to say that. Anyway, one more day of grueling demands at the Real Job, and then I'll be free to work on more of my beloved projects! Next week should be pretty exciting, so stay tuned for news! Don't forget to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors and give them some love in the form of comments. Have a great week!

Cheers,

Amy

  1. You've got me wondering why he's so calm, when he probably shouldn't be. Nice snippet, and thanks for the review!

  3. Busy week indeed! Love the interplay here, you paint some pretty vivid characters in just a few short sentences -- nicely done!

  4. I enjoy the tone of this, and the way the characters 'talk' to each other. Fun stuff, great excerpt!

    1. Thanks! I figured it would be a suitable method, since one of them is always getting into massive amounts of trouble and needs the other to help him out. ;)

  5. I wonder if he can back up that cockiness of his?
